Lyoto Machida says he knows how to beat Weidman
Brazilian Mixed Martial Artist and Ultimate Fighting Championship or UFC Middleweight Lyoto Machida has been lucky enough to get some extra time to prepare for his UFC Middleweight Championship match up against Chris Weidman but from his comments, it doesn’t seem he really needed any extra preparation ahead of the fight.
The title bout was originally scheduled for the 24th of May at UFC 173 but was pushed back to 5th July after the undefeated champion had to undergo a double knee surgery. And this gives the Brazilian six extra weeks to prepare for the match but according to the Dragon, he felt ready for the fight to go ahead already.
Machida stated that the extra time to train was good for him, but at the same time, it was not as well.
Lyoto Machida added that he was training extremely hard and was ready to fight in May, even though he was made aware of the situation two months before. However, he admitted that he will now use the extra two weeks to train even harder and get inside the cage stronger than ever before.
Machida has managed a record of 2-0 since he dropped down to Middleweight to Light Heavyweight and the Brazilian is very confident that his combination of takedown defense as well as stand up weapons will be enough to hand the American the first loss of his professional career, something that even the legendary Anderson Silva couldn’t manage in two attempts.
According to Lyoto Machida, Weidman has a great wrestling and he a powerful hitter as well, apart from having great cardio but he has conviction in what he does and that is what Lyoto believes will hold the key for him.
Machida also knows Weidman won’t take risks as the champion and the onus will be on him.
